Getting The Most From Golf Lessons

It has never easy asking for help, but in golf, it is practically a necessity. Unfortunately, we often ask our buddies and partners, when in reality we should take a lesson or two with a professional, usually called the Club Pro.

We may possibly think that a Pro would be too critical, but in fact, they are honest, positive and usually very helpful.

Lessons at the local golf course aren’t as expensive as you might think and they are worth it because your game will improve more rapidly and cause you less frustration, making the game much more enjoyable for you.

It is of vital importance to be absolutely honest about your game. The Pro will ask you what you think you need to learn: driving, chipping, putting or whatever you feel you need assistance with.

Listen carefully and follow the Pro’s instructions. You may have doubts if the Pro changes your stance, your grip or your swing, but really, the Pro does know best.

Oh and don’t hesitate to ask the Pro golfer any questions you may have and don’t worry about whether your question or concern may sound stupid – they’ve heard it all before and will not make you feel like a fool for inquiring. If you don’t understand, tell the Pro that you do not understand. You should never walk away from a lesson with unanswered questions.

For example, a strategy might be to concentrate on one thing during a lesson, or on several. You might start with a lesson on driving; get the right grip, the right stance, the right swing, the right follow-through in one lesson, and then practice it for a few weeks until you feel that you’ve got it right. Next time, you might want to work on your short game, or putting.

You’ve invested in the set of golf clubs and it isn’t cheap, is it? So, it doesn’t make sense not to learn how to use it to it’s best advantage and improve your abilities, does it?

Choose Golf Shoes Wisely

Your swing may change with time, your accuracy and distance will improve with practice and strength, and you will become deadly accurate with a putter in time, but you will always do these things while standing on your own two feet and they can get tired.

So, your feet need to be quite comfortable, don’t they! Have you ever got a blister whilst walking or running? It’s all you can think about and it ruins your enjoyment of the experience of what you are doing. Don’t let uncomfortable golf shoes ruin your game of golf too.

This is one sphere where you shouldn’t let your natural desire to save money make the decision for you. You will be wearing these shoes many times over a long period of time and they should be considered a good investment in your game of golf.

Comfort, not cost, should be your biggest concern when buying shoes. Your foot should not move at all on your heel when you walk, yet your toes shouldn’t feel cramped. Have your shoes fitted to your feet and walk around in them before you actually buy them.

Proper golf shoes should also be waterproof, so that your feet remain dry under damp conditions. Good socks are important too as they will wick perspiration away from you feet, keeping your feet dry and comfortable.

All golf courses prohibit metal spiked shoes in the effort to protect their delicate greens. Purchase shoes that allow you to change the rubber spikes easily, and while you’re there, purchase some extra spikes. You never know when you may lose one. You should also replace the spikes when they become worn.

You have many things to think about while playing golf, but your feet shouldn’t be one of them. When it comes to golf shoes, quality counts.

Golfing Etiquette Basics

Golf is a game of rules and etiquette, and it is very important to know the basics of golfing etiquette before you go up to the tee to play your first game of golf.

It doesn’t matter whether you are playing alone, in a twosome or in a foursome, golfing etiquette demands that you must always wait your turn. You must stay aware of the group on the next hole and wait until they are well ahead of you before you hit your ball.

Golfing etiquette also means that it is never correct to “push” the group in front of you. If you are playing with others, wait for your turn to hit the ball; never hit at the same time as another player.

While you wait for your turn to play, go to your ball and determine what golf club you will select and how you are going to hit the golf ball with it. This is called “ready golf” and keeps the game moving along, but don’t hurry everybody, just be ready for your turn to play.

Another nice piece of golfing etiquette, especially for beginners is ‘playing through’. For example, if your team is holding up the players behind you, perhaps because you are playing consistently over par or taking a long time to choose your club, let them play through. You would simply wave them through, or if they are near enough to you, just ask them if they would like to play through. You will never make enemies by doing this!

When someone is making a shot, you should be standing behind them and you shouldn’t make any noise! It is very distracting to be ready to tee off and just as you pull back, someone decides to jingle coins in their pocket or noisily unwrap a sweet.

Replacing your divots. Say you are on the fairway and you hit the ball and a clod of dirt and grass goes flying, golfing etiquette says you should replace it. On some courses you just put the clod back and step on it to press it down, but on most courses, there is a sand/seed mixture on the course to put into the divot. If your ball makes a deep impression when it lands on the green, you can use your divot tool to repair it.

As soon as you have completed a hole, replace the flag and leave the green quickly so that the next players can play that hole. Count your score and write it on the scorecard as soon as you’re back at your cart.

There is much more to golfing etiquette of course, but these simple essentials of golfing etiquette will enable you to get through the course without upsetting anyone. If we all keep to golfing etiquette we will keep the game friendly, or not?

What Golf Equipment Should I Buy?

Purchasing golf equipment can be just like throwing your money into the sea, but fore-waned, you can save yourself plenty of time and money when you’re choosing your golf clubs. As in many cases, you can either spend a lot of money in one go or you can spend a little several times, until you get what you really want.

If you are just beginning and are not 100% sure that you want to commit yourself to the addictive game of golf, you should either rent golf clubs at the clubhouse on the golf course, or buy a starter set of golf clubs.

Buying a set of starter golf clubs enables you to become accustomed to them; enabling you to concentrate on your swing instead of wondering how this set of miss-matched golf clubs you just rented is going to work out.

As you become better at golf, you should invest in a better set of clubs more suited to you.

Generally, a set includes a driver, one or two fairway woods, numbers 4-9 irons, a wedge or two and a putter.

Once become more experienced and start considering buying new clubs, you may want to consider purchasing your driver as a separate item. Some players want a driver to give them more accuracy, others need more distance.

There are numerous types of golf ball available and the golf ball box will usually have a chart on the back to direct you to the right ball for your needs. As you learn more about the game and get better at it, you should experiment with different balls which could improve your accuracy and/or distance.

Having the right golf equipment is an important aspect of the game, so watch out and make your purchases wisely!

Fashion and Ladies Golf Apparel

I was reading one of those ‘Golfing for Women’ magazines the other week and started wondering where the women live, who wear the golf attire modeled in women’s golfing magazines? I’ve never seen women, not even the professionals, who would dress in such expensive and outrageous clothing.

It’s easy to spend lots of money fitting yourself out for golf. What with hats, sunglasses, gloves, shirts, shorts, socks, windbreakers and shoes, the costs add up very quickly, even if you do your shopping at the sales. Then add in the cost of clubs, balls, bag, cart and fees and you have to play very often to keep the “CPU” (cost per use) down to a reasonable level.

One glossy advertisement showed a beautiful model in really short shorts (as if that’s allowed on courses!) that cost nearly $300, a golf shirt at almost $600, a jacket by Ralph Lauren at almost $200 and two-toned Utuser shoes costing $400 plus.

That comes to almost $1,500! I know that I could never hope to get the CPU on that outfit down to anywhere near a normal limit in my lifetime! Don’t get me wrong – I love clothes and I really love shoes, but could never afford, or even want, golf shoes or pants that cost more than most people’s weekly wage.

OK, you want comfy golf shoes that don’t look like something your grandmother would have worn, but you can easily find less expensive and still fashionable shoes.

I have a couple of really stylish golf outfits, although none of them are famous brand names. If I totalled up the cost of all of those articles of clothing, it would not come to the cost of a Tse golf shirt. Personally, I would rather have several trendy outfits than one that is priced over-the-top.

If I were to wear a $1,500 outfit to play golf, I would simply be too worried about getting it dirty or perspiring in it to play a decent round.
